Alternate Ending to Sitcom TV series: Everybody Hates Chris
American Sitcom Series- Everybody Hates Chris
The series named ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ ends very abruptly
and is something which shocked a lot of the fans. The end is made very similar
to a scene from ‘The Sopranos’. Chris, the main lead is a student who is
purposely made late by his class teacher, due to which he faces the brunt of
not graduating from high school. He then gives a diploma (G.E.D.) exam which as
per Chris, stands up to the same level of education as graduating high school.
When the results come in, his mother sees the result and Chris asks his mother
what it says and the scene is cut right there with no proper explanation as to
what happen.
This series was made based upon the life of Chris Rock, the
comedian and as per the timeline, Chris Rock’s father passes away the next year
after him passing his G.E.D. in real life. It could’ve been difficult for Chris
Rock to show the reality and maybe hence the abrupt cut.
How I wished the ending could’ve been:
I wish Chris’ class teacher and principal would’ve been more
understanding towards him because they’re already aware of his everyday
struggles. Like, come on! He just came through a shootout, saved a baby in a
shootout, was interviewed by an officer, and questioned even more because he’s
African-American (which made him less trustworthy as per the officer) and still
made it to school. Teachers are very interested in pushing a student forward
academically rather than keeping students behind and failing them on purpose
and this is what Chris’ class teacher did and I wished he hadn’t done that. I
wish he got to live in a boy’s dorm room near his school so that he doesn’t be
late every day to school otherwise he’d be changing three buses and getting up
extra early just for good education and better discipline. It would’ve been so
much nicer if he or any other African-American wouldn’t face racism or
discrimination in the series towards the end because endings are supposed to
be beautiful and leave the audience with a happy mood and a good mindset. It
could’ve ended beautifully with the entire family being at the restaurant
enjoying a happy dinner celebrating the children’s achievements.
Alternately,
Chris had one chance to graduate through high school. When
Chris’ mother was called for a meeting with the principal due to his low
attendance, the principal was indirectly racist and tried asking his mother
whether she wants Chris to be pampered like some rich white girl or go through
hardships. Sometimes, besides taking a drop, I know how hard it is for parents
to finance a child for an extra year and with Chris’ family’s financial
situation, I wished his mother would’ve said “Yes” rather than saying no
because Chris did work very hard towards his academics, faced hardships but
went completely down due to his mother saying “No” to the principal’s trick
question since the principal did have intentions of not allowing
African-American people win.
